Snow Happens!
Due to the extreme nature of the storm that has hit Garrett County and the Deep Creek Lake area the Dunk planning committee has made the following decisions:
Friday evening's Dunkfest HAS BEEN CANCELLED!
As for SATURDAY'S DUNK, at this moment, we are STRONGLY recommending that anyone not already in the Deep Creek area DO NOT attempt to travel to tomorow's event. The major artery into the Deep Creek area has been opened and closed several times in the last 12 hours (I-68) as the result of multiple accidents, impenetrable whiteout winds, and generally life threataning conditions. Within Garrett County itself - half of the county roads have been totally shut down and emergency preparedness experts in this area have issued a 4 wheel drive ONLY policy. I cannot emphasize enough the seriousness of the conditions that exist on the roads leading to the Deep Creek area. Local officials are describing this storm as a "historical" event.
We are monitoring the local weather conditions carefully for any updates to the Dunk plan. As of this moment - 12 noon on Friday, we are still honoring the spirit of the Dunk by holding a 2 PM cermonial event into the lake on Saturday. We realize there are a large number of registered Dunkers who made it to the lake before the storm hit. We will (again - at this point) honor our commitment to allow those individuals the opportunity to Dunk. I reiterate though - even the conditions 1short mile from the Dunk location demand 4 wheel drive vehicles. If you can ski, snowshoe, snowmobile, luge, curl, biathelate, XC ski, or sled your way to the Honi on Saturday, we promise you a safe, enjoyable Dunk experience.

Rest assured those Dunkers unable to join us tommorow - you will still receive your sweatshirt by emailing Plunge@somd.org with your full name, address and sweatshirt size.
